Sacred medicine

Ayahuasca, the vine of the soul

Known as "the vine of the soul," ayahuasca is one of the most respected teacher plants of the Amazon. Used for thousands of years by indigenous peoples, it opens the door to deep healing, insight and a felt connection with the sacred.

Understanding ayahuasca

The most powerful teacher plant

Ayahuasca is a sacred brew made from two plants of the Amazon: the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the chacruna leaf (Psychotria viridis). Boiled together for hours in the traditional way, they become a medicine that has guided healing and spiritual growth for millennia.

In ceremony it is worked with slowly and with respect — never as a recreational substance. The vine is the teacher; the diet, the songs and the guidance around it are what make the encounter safe and meaningful.

In the brew

Two plants, one medicine

The vine

Banisteriopsis caapi contains MAO inhibitors that allow DMT to become orally active. Without the vine, the brew would have no effect.

The leaf

Psychotria viridis carries DMT, the primary compound behind the visionary and introspective quality of the ceremony.

The brew

Traditional preparation means hours of boiling both plants together — a slow, attentive process that yields the sacred medicine.
